About our program

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” ( Matthew 28:19).

It is this Great Commission that the St. Alphonsa Catechism program seeks to emulate. The religious education ministry at St. Alphonsa church is dedicated to promoting the lifelong faith formation of the parish community. Through the CCD classes, our group of dedicated and caring catechists work to instruct our young ones in the light of the word of God. A thirst for knowing and loving the Universal Church and the Syro Malabar church in particular, is enkindled in the young minds. They are inspired to receive the life-giving sacraments as often as they can so that they grow in faith and become witnesses to God.

With classes spanning from Kindergarten to 12th grade, we have 115 students and 26 teachers. We strive to raise our future generation into model citizens and exemplary Catholics. There are various programs that we organize for the children to enable this growth such as retreats, saints projects, Bible discussions/quizzes, field trips and presentations. We also encourage the children to showcase their talents through Bible Activities and the Annual Day. Through these activities our children are able to understand the value of faith, prayer, mercy and good life choices. We also prepare the children to receive Solemn Communion, Confession, and Confirmation through additional classes.

Admission

Students must be four years of age by Sept 1st of the year they are enrolled.

Parental Involvement

We request the parents to get actively involved in the faith formation process of the children. Parents are requested to bring their children on time for Holy Qurbana and CCD, and inform the teachers if their child is not able to attend the class.

We are supported by active PTA members Biju Thomas, Bilma Reji, Helen Basandh, Martin Mani, Mithun Johny, and Sindhu Varghese in all our CCD activities.

Following Scripture and Tradition

All classes follow the Syro Malabar textbook from the Diocese, and in addition to the book, conduct activities like presentations, Saints projects, Bible discussions, and general discussions to help children understand the value of faith, prayer and choices in life.

Reception of Sacraments

Holy Communion Classes are conducted every year and teachers prepare the children for their Solemn Holy Communion and reconciliation.

Spiritual Enhancement – All our CCD children are encouraged to participate in the Dei Verbum Bible quiz conducted by the Diocese. Retreats are coordinated every year for the children and their spiritual nourishment.

Cultural Activities to enrich faith

During the year we celebrate different activities like All Saints day, Bible Activity Day, and CCD Annual Day that enrich our children’s faith and showcase their talents. These activities help convey the message of the gospel and promote teamwork among CCD children.

Virtus Safety Training for Children

Every year we conduct 3 different safety training sessions for our children based on the various age groups and for our adult volunteers. The program focuses on protecting God’s children from sexual abuse.
