Altar Service is a unique and intimate expression of service to God. An altar server has the privilege of assisting the priest during the most holy sacrifice, the Qurbana. In representation of the angels in Heaven, an altar server guides the congregation to experience the reality of the sacrifice happening in front of their eyes. An altar server plays an essential role in creating a holy atmosphere for all those participating in the Qurbana.
The St. Alphonsa Church has a young, active, and growing group of 60 altar servers: 30 girls and 30 boys. Once children receive their First Holy Communion and receive appropriate training, they are permitted to altar serve. This special grace allows altar servers to discern their vocation and grow in relationship to God.
