Last winter break, I visited Lake Havasu with family and friends. It is a beautiful small city that may not be well known to many travelers. Lake Havasu City is in western Arizona and is famous for its desert trails and water sports on Lake Havasu. One of its most unique attractions is the London Bridge, which was relocated from England. This bridge connects the mainland to marinas and a looped path in an area known as “The Island.”
After a long six-hour drive, we finally arrived in Lake Havasu City on our first day. The drive was a beautiful experience through the desert, with breathtaking views of rugged mountains and the vast blue lake—almost surreal in the middle of the Arizona desert. We checked into a cozy lakeside Airbnb with a perfect lakeside view. Our first stop had to be the famous London Bridge, which was actually brought over from England piece by piece—such a unique landmark! We took a leisurely walk along the Bridgewater Channel, watching boats cruise by.
On the second morning, we strolled along the beautiful lakeside and enjoyed the perfect weather. In the evening, we rented a boat and set out onto Lake Havasu. The water was crystal clear, and the weather was just right—warm with a slight breeze. We stopped at Copper Canyon, where we watched people cliff-jumping. It was an amazing experience, especially as we witnessed a stunning sunset over the lake.
On the third day, we went hiking at Sara Park’s hiking trail, which turned out to be an adventurous four-hour trek. This unique trail leads to a scenic cove on the lake, marked by a fascinating rock formation known as Balance Rock—a massive rock precariously balanced atop a narrow pillar of eroded stone. The geology along this trail was truly breathtaking! As we continued, the trail narrowed into a slot canyon, requiring us to boulder our way through, with a rope to assist us in descending a seven-foot drop. It was an exhilarating experience!
On our last day, we packed up and, on the way back, made a stop at the Grand Canyon before heading home safely. There are a lot more attractions in Lake Havasu that we need to visit on our next trip, such as the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, the history museum, a zip line across the lake, Grapevine Canyon, and multiple hiking trails, etc.
Lake Havasu is the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation—definitely a place I would love to return to. If you enjoy water sports, hiking, or simply want to unwind by the lake, I highly recommend visiting Lake Havasu. It truly has a little bit of everything!
