Do you know that the devotion to Holy Rosary originated in 1212 when St. Dominic de Guzman’s prayer was answered and he understood how to combat the Albigensian heresy? Do you know how that happened? It was the result of the Blessed Virgin Mary giving him the rosary. Through his prayers, he was able to understand how to combat the Albigensian heresy, which led to their defeat. Moreover, this incident turned the Rosary into a symbol of comfort, strength, and confidence for many facing problems in life.

The many beads of the rosary can be counted as a shield or protection from evil and wrongdoing. Even during many wars, the Rosary has remained a beacon of light to those who recite prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and they have gained victory in battle. Today, people see the Rosary as a way (given straight from Mother Mary) to contemplate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus at any given moment. During many sightings of Mother Mary, it is said that she constantly encourages the recitation of the Rosary. She has continuously suggested praying the Rosary daily to prevent division and disturbance in our hearts.

Through the liturgy, we become one of the fortunate disciples of Jesus. We begin to understand that Mary allowed God complete control of her life due to her awe and admiration for the divine providence. This acceptance of God’s plan is what resulted in the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We, too, should have this awe and surrender ourselves completely to God. By praying the Rosary, we declare our trust in God, and through the special intercession of Mary, we can reach new heights in our faith journey.

In the month of the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, our Mother advises us to place trust in her and show it through the recitation of the Holy Rosary. Thus, what may have seemed humanly impossible, becomes possible through the mediation of Mary, no matter how big or small the dilemma we may be facing/going through. The Blessed Virgin Mary does not simply tell us to follow the word of the Lord, instead, she herself had lived by this statement. Knowing nothing about what may come, Mother Mary had blindly accepted the call of the Lord to give birth to our Savior, Jesus Christ, through the words – “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” So, aren’t we too able to accept the call of the Lord?
