The Breakthrough Junior Challenge invites students between the ages of thirteen to eighteen from all around the world to create a two-minute video that creatively explains scientific concepts. Past winners have tackled diverse topics, from neutrino astronomy to Van Der Waals forces.
To take part in the Breakthrough Junior Challenge, create a short video (2:00 – two minutes max) to explain a big idea in one of these fields:
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Life Sciences
By participating in the Breakthrough Junior Challenge, you can not only have the chance to showcase your creativity and knowledge but also a chance to receive life-changing benefits. Winners will be awarded a $250,000 post-secondary scholarship. Teachers will receive $50,000 and the winner’s school can receive renovations or the addition of a science lab valued up to $100,000.

Applications for the competition are currently open, with submissions closing on June 25th, 11:59 PM PST. Videos will be judged on criteria such as engagement, illumination, creativity, and difficulty, with a maximum of five points awarded in each category. Additionally, each participant must judge at least five other contestants from June 27th to July 10th, making this an excellent opportunity to learn science from like-minded individuals from around the world.
