A Tale of Talents

A Tale of Talents

The months of July and August are liturgically rich in feasts of saints. We remember the stalwarts (brave soldiers) of Christian faith such as Saints Augustine, Alphonse Liguori, Ignatius Loyola, Thomas the Apostle, Alphonsa and many more. They did not do many things ‘for God’, instead they tried to do what God had told them to do. Oftentimes, we tirelessly do a lot of things for God. In fact, God only asks of us to do what He has told us to do. Deuteronomy 5:33 says, “Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.”

The builders labor in vain,
the guards stand watch in vain,
In vain you rise early and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat-
for He grants sleep to those he loves.’ (psalm 127: 1, 2)
